Cryptorows
2019 —Cryptorows started out as a self-portrat project exploring the research of Ron Eglash & Audrey Bennett. Their research explores the computational and educational possibilities in cornrows. To further engage in the research I embarked on a self portrait series as a methodology of embodying the research. The abstract to Eglash & Bennett’s work can be found at the following link along with supporting figures from their paper, Teaching with Hidden Capital. Today the Cyptorows series has been re-imagined into the specultive world building project, Cykofa. Cryptorows have evolved into a Cykofian hairstyle in which the Cykofa peoples use thier cornrows as cryptography keys which embedded signature, family history, and different levels of access amongst the community.
